KEEN St. Louis is hiring a part-time Program Coordinator.
Position type: Part-time; not benefits-eligible
Primary location: Saint Louis University High School (SLUH), with occasional work at other program sites and limited remote work as assigned such as responding to emails between sessions and coordinating with other staff.
Required hours: Sunday afternoons on scheduled session dates; some availability outside of sessions for preparation, communication, special events, and other program dates as needed
Typical session shift: Approximately 5 hours per scheduled session (majority of hours are during program sessions)
Compensation: $20/hour

ORGANIZATION
KEEN St. Louis empowers youth with disabilities by providing free, non-competitive, one-to-one programs of exercise, fitness, and fun led by volunteer coaches. KEEN fosters self-confidence and inclusion for youth with disabilities, strengthens the community through volunteer education, and provides families with respite and a supportive network.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Coordinator supports KEEN programs, including sports, music, dance, and Bright Roots at SLUH, swim at the Center of Clayton, and other program locations as needed. This role provides on-floor, real-time support to athlete and volunteer coach pairings, supervises and guides volunteers during sessions, and helps ensure programs are safe, inclusive, and well-organized. The position is physically active and requires working on your feet during program sessions, lifting and moving sports equipment, and assisting with set-up and clean-up. Program Coordinator will be directly responsible for activities related to Athlete and Volunteer Support during sessions and will operate in collaboration with the Program Coordinator responsible for Front Desk and the Program Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide on-floor support for one-to-one athlete and volunteer coach pairings during sports, music, and dance activities; circulate continuously to monitor engagement, safety, and inclusion.
- Supervise volunteers during sessions by providing clear direction, modeling appropriate supports, and offering real-time coaching to strengthen volunteer-athlete interactions.
- Assist the Program Director with volunteer orientation and training, including welcoming new volunteers and reinforcing program expectations and safety procedures.
- Assign and adjust athlete-volunteer pairings as needed; communicate promptly and respectfully with volunteers and families regarding session flow.
- Support volunteers and athletes with challenging behaviors or accommodation needs; apply de-escalation strategies and consult the Program Manager as needed.
- Set up and break down equipment and program areas (gym floor, music/dance spaces, chairs, and supplies); ensure equipment is stored safely and spaces are left clean.
- Serve as a flexible, team-oriented staff member during sessions—pitching in wherever needed based on real-time program demand; this may include cross-trained front desk coverage, athlete/volunteer support, and other session support tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience working with youth and/or individuals with disabilities (paid or volunteer).
- Ability to supervise, coach, and provide constructive direction to volunteers in a supportive manner.
- Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and comfort managing activity flow in a busy, high-energy environment.
- Reliable transportation and ability to consistently arrive on time for scheduled Sunday sessions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to remain physically active and on your feet for up to 5 hours during program sessions (standing, walking, bending, and moving between activity areas).
- Ability to lift, carry, and move sports equipment and supplies (up to approximately 40 pounds).
- Ability to work in a gymnasium/activity setting with moderate to high noise levels and frequent movement.
