Current Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to assist youth in our Sports, Swim, and Sings programs. KEEN volunteers are paired one-on-one with a youth with a disability and participate in a variety of recreational activities. Volunteers don't need any prior experience working with individuals with disabilities – KEEN provides training prior to each session. Volunteers don't need to be athletic, either. Our athletes will love you just as you are! Additional information on current volunteer opportunities can be found here.

Opportunities are available for individuals or group to get involved with KEEN for occasional participation, regular involvement, or leadership on our coaches committee. We have a really flexible volunteer policy - no regular or minimum commitment is necessary. Volunteers simply attend sessions as their schedules allow. Contact KEEN St. Louis at info@keenstlouis.org with any questions.

How to Become a Volunteer

  1. Complete the new volunteer application. Volunteers must provide contact information for three references.
  2. Once the application has been approved, log into the online registration system and select the date of the session you would like to attend.
  3. Attend new volunteer orientation, available before each session. KEEN St. Louis Program Manager will contact you for available times.
  4. Wear comfortable clothes.
  5. Show up and have fun!

Volunteer Screening Procedure

To ensure the safety and welfare of the children and young adults with disabilities, KEEN uses the following screening procedures:

  1. KEEN volunteers shall never be alone with athletes in an unsupervised setting.
  2. First-time volunteers over 21 years of age may be asked to show government-issued identification before volunteering.
  3. All volunteers are subject to a search in national child offender registries and/or reference checks completed by the relevant KEEN affiliate, upon or before their third time volunteering.
  4. Volunteers must provide 2 adult references as part of the application process.
  5. KEEN does not accept new walk-in volunteers unless they are accompanied by a current volunteer, are part of a registered group of volunteers, or complete the required paperwork on-site.
  6. KEEN reserves the right to terminate a volunteer for any reason. All of the organization’s decisions regarding a volunteer’s participation shall be made on a non-discriminatory basis and without regard to race, gender, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation and/or national origin.
